Long time ago…

It’s already two months ago that I wrote something here. In the meantime I’ve had a very busy work life with up to 70 hours per week. However there are only a few changes in private life. Still working in Germany and as it looks as it will be another summer in Essen… My time in the UK is almost over and it will just be enough for some day visits.

In the last two months I made some photos on my trips to Dusseldorf, Magdeburg and Geneva. You can look at them in the photo gallery. As usual, I want to use the opportunity to put one of my favorites on the start page.

This one was taken during the flood over Easter in Magdeburg. It’s a night shoot taken with a pretty long exposure. Everything is covered with water and we were standing in the water while taking the photo. You can see the clouds “moving” and the line of light is a night train, which makes the pic very interesting to me. But judge yourself and don’t be too shy to leave a comment…

Eventually – An update…

After being in Germany over Christmas, I am back in Zurich – finally. Work has started again and time flies by. Again over two months since the last update.  I am back in Essen, Germany for work now, so if anybody wants to come around and visit me in the amazing town. Nah, it’s not really this breathtaking, but the location is still better then in UK (Swindon).

Unfortunately, there is no chance to go to London anymore, so look at the new London pix with astonishment. Anyways, I managed to upload some of the London pictures and added a few of Zurich. You can have a look at the London Pix in the Gallery. I tried to comment most of them and would be delighted if you would take the time and rate or comment them as well.

Busy worklife

Work has been very busy recently. I am currently deployed to the UK and took the opportunity to travel to London for two weekends. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to upload any photos taken there. Hope I will find the time soon to select some pictures and upload them…

For work I am currently in Swindon, which is pretty much between London and Bristol, about one hour drive from London. Not very exciting there. But on the other hand I mostly just see the client site and the hotel, so it’s not too exciting. However, work is very challenging there. We are implementing SAP SEM-BCS and BW there and it’s very interesting.

For anybody interested, I will be in London again in November and in Germany for the Christmas time. So don’t hesitate to call me if you are around…

Beautiful Zurich

Enjoying the last summer days in Switzerland, I was strolling around with my new camera. A few weeks ago, I’ve bought a Canon PowerShot S70 (Review) and so far I’m very happy with it. Unfortunately, I realized now that Canon just presented the new S80, Well, more luck next time.

The S70 has a plenty of manual modes and settings, so that it can be a little tricky to shoot on full manual. But that is what made the camera very interesting for me. Not to be constrained by the camera automatic you can go out and get creative – on the other hand this means you have to get used to the camera and learn how to set all the available parameters. But that’s definitely worth it.

I think I tried all the different settings this day, so now it’s really up to comparing the pix taken. I took the opportunity to make some shoots of Zurich and to try all the different camera modes. I’ve put a few new Zurich pix online. It seams that I still have to improve the color balance a little bit. The first try turned out to be too greenish, this actual one has too much magenta in it. I hope next time I can provide you with a more balanced shoot .

So long dear friend…

An Angel

Today I’ve uploaded a wonderful picture, taken on Waverley Cemetery, Sydney. I’ve been there during my last days in Sydney and it was amazing. This is the cemetery with the most fabulous outlook I’ve ever seen.

The statues there are amazing and you can see this ocean until the horizon. Such a serene atmosphere – and apparently one of Sydney’s Tourist attractions. Worth a visit, even if it’s a cemetery…

Beautiful Zurich

Another day, another picture… Today I’ve chosen a picture from Zurich. The amazing fountain on the lake of Zurich. I would guess its about 30 to 40 meters high and it changes shape over the time.

Stunning view with the clear water, blue sky and the alps in the back. You have to admit that Zurich is really beautiful. Maybe I should get money from the ministry of tourism for the Zurich advertisement.

Paris Photo II

This is a photo of “La Basilique du Sacré Cœur de Montmartre”. Situated on the Montmartre hill, you can overlook Paris. It’s a really beautiful cathedral, unfortunately with lots of tourists around. This is one of the few photos I have without people on it.

You can go in free of charge, but photography is not permitted in there. I think it’s the only church I’ve seen with security personal taking care that the people are quiet and behave respectfully. Last but not least the cathedral is shown is some scenes of the beautiful movie “Le fabuleux destin d’Amelie Poulin”.

My cool new Scanner

Once upon a time… – in April – I’ve bought a scanner and since the prices in Switzerland are a lil expensive, I’ve ordered it from a German website. Even with a more expensive postage, it was still cheaper than buying it in Switzerland…

Unless, well unless you forget the Swiss custom. After a few weeks – I was wondering why the scanner was still on its way – I was kindly reminded by the Swiss custom to pay taxes, tariffs and fees for my package :-o. Altogether, the VAT, the tariff, the storage charge, the inspection fee, and the friendly postcard they sent, did make the scanner a tiny little bit more expensive – it was still cheaper than buying in Switzerland though.

Anyway, now I own a nice Canoscan 8400F (Review). So, what are you doing with scanners?! You scan things… So I scanned a few of my films. Fortunately, the scanner is able to process negatives with 3200 dpi (in case someone is interested…), what gives you a smooth and pretty big picture.

The scanner has a film guides, which can hold up to twelve negatives (or four slides or three pictures of roll film) and crops the pictures during the batch scan process automatically. Very easy and convenient to scan the 108 negatives I had at in Zurich, but I will take all my films with me next time and scan them during the next few weeks.

Since I scanned three films (more to come), I will try to post a picture every now and then… For now, I’ve chosen a picture from my Paris trip in mid April taken in the Luxembourg garden. But see yourself (I would be delighted about some comments :-D)…
